As wind energy deployment continues to grow, the demand for expertised employees rises. In just ten years time, the demand will have more than doubled. Interview with Peter Eecen on this challenge.
“Currenly, there's about 400,000 people working in the European Union on wind energy. We expect in 2035 that it will be growing to 900,000”, says Peter, who is coordinator of sub-programme 5 where skills is priority research theme.
It's not only a new generation of wind energy scientists. It’s planners, economists, analysists and similar, in sectors that are changing as renewable energy becomes more dominant.
“That’s why we talk about about skilling, upskilling, and reskilling of the workforce”, says Peter, calling for comprehensive training programmes that covers the entire value chain of the sector.
